HOPE - HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Close

Hope's details are that she was the second "Shadow" being launched on 4th December 1949 at Devonport. She is 30'-0" in length, 8'-0" in beam, and a draft of 5'-6". She was built by Fred Norris and Ray Shaw who at that stage was an apprentice with the Logans. She sailed in the two inaugural races from Auckland to Hobart in the early 1950s taking line honours on the second one.

She travelled up to Noumea and was wrecked at Managawhai Heads on her return to New Zealand. She was then extensively repaired by her next owner Peter Utting and in the late 1960s came into the ownership of Alan Coan whom completely rebuilt her giving her a modern layout. I acquired her in 1987.

Her registration number is 329 and her call sign is ZMV 8093.
